Forth and clyde canal walk

Image
This walk can be started near the heart of Glasgow city centre and does not require transport which is a bonus for those living in the busy city centre that are wanting a short escape. The canal itself spans 66 miles across the heart of Scotland passing by many attractions like the Falkirk wheel, lush greenery and colourful narrow boats. It spans from Edinburgh to Bowling.   The walk takes you through a diverse landscape, from urban areas adorned with modern architecture to peaceful countryside scenes. The canal itself, once a vital waterway for industrial transport, is now a serene ribbon of water flanked by lush greenery and dotted with colourful narrowboats. As you walk along the towpath, you can witness the captivating transformation of the canal, from a hub of trade and commerce to a tranquil haven for wildlife and nature enthusiasts.   However, I started my walk in Kirkintilloch heading toward Milton of Campsie. I parked my car at the lids which is handy as the en...

Drumpellier Country Park

Image
Located near Coatbridge and only 20ish minutes from city centre, this country park provides nearly 500 acres of woodland scenery. At first glance it looks like one big pond with a single path but there are lots and lots of shortcut paths that leads into longer walks with proper country side views.   I visited on a Sunday which I wouldn’t recommend as it was very busy and filled with families but no wonder as the size of the children’s play park was the biggest I think i've ever seen. However, if you detour off the main path it becomes a lot quieter quickly. The path was so pretty with all the autumn leaves on the floor.    I think there’s 3 lochs/ponds however I only managed to find 2 of them as the place is so big, I also nearly got lost because one of the paths was covered in leaves but don’t worry I survived. All around the park are benches and I’m not sure if it was on purpose but every single bench was positioned facing the sun which was cute. Today there was a...

Linn park walk

Image
I recently changed it up and ventured to the south side of Glasgow to Linn park, only 22 minutes away from city centre by car. It’s a massive park that spreads almost 200 acres, located next to Cathcart and not too far from Shawlands area. There are lots of different paths and turns to take that offers a different experience and route each time I visit. One of my favourite spots in the park is the large waterfall that falls into the pond. A fence blocks the area of but is easy to hop over, and many do, to sit facing the waterfall crashing down. Due to the dense woodland and greenery the park itself really feels far away from the city in its own secluded area, it almost feels similar to so walks in Aviemore proving how different it is to being in the city.    Some other unique features of this park which aren’t in any of the other walks include a large 18 hole golf course and also an equestrian school which sometimes has pony walks! Both these places include toilets so y...

Mugdock country park!

Image
My favourite place to go to get away from the city is Mugdock country park. I’ve been going since I was young, my dad would take me every Saturday morning for a walk and then at the end we would have to buy the best rice krispie cake you’ll ever have at the café  or the walk just wasn’t worth it.   One of the park's remarkable features is its intricate network of paths, each leading to unique discoveries. One of my favourite walks in the park has nearly everything nature has to offer! Including a pond which is home to a family of ducks, a waterfall, a castle (which u can explore inside sometimes) and then of course the café at the end obviously. With so many different paths the walks can be from 30 minutes to hours and some paths even connect to the west highland way if that’s what you're into. Another good walk the park has to offer can take you to a hidden gem of the country park, an old ww2 base. This base was once utilised to defend the skies above the Clyde can now...
