Drumpellier Country Park

Located near Coatbridge and only 20ish minutes from city centre, this country park provides nearly 500 acres of woodland scenery. At first glance it looks like one big pond with a single path but there are lots and lots of shortcut paths that leads into longer walks with proper country side views.

I visited on a Sunday which I wouldn’t recommend as it was very busy and filled with families but no wonder as the size of the children’s play park was the biggest I think i've ever seen. However, if you detour off the main path it becomes a lot quieter quickly. The path was so pretty with all the autumn leaves on the floor.

I think there’s 3 lochs/ponds however I only managed to find 2 of them as the place is so big, I also nearly got lost because one of the paths was covered in leaves but don’t worry I survived. All around the park are benches and I’m not sure if it was on purpose but every single bench was positioned facing the sun which was cute. Today there was a lot of ducks and swans floating about.

The car park is big with lots of spaces and its free! There was also a wee visitor centre with a café and an ice-cream truck. Dotted over the park is a lot of picnic benches which I imagine are busy during the summer months.

One negative I feel is that some paths come close to a busy road, the noise from the cars really takes away from the ‘escape the city’ feel.

Overall I would rate this country escape a 6/10 as there’s not too many features in this park such as a waterfall and also because of the noise from the road sounds like the city.
